The Power of Commitment
It never ceases to amaze me at what jumps out and speaks to me in a new way from a more thoughtful rereading of Synchronicity.
This past week it was this quote from Joseph Jaworski: “Commitment is the ground of being that enables the free will that is not “controlled by things and instincts” to operate.”

As I reflect on the past 10 years and my commitment to impact workplace transformation, the notion of not being “controlled by things and instincts” really stands out.
It’s been a slow but steady progression of “things and instincts” that have less and less impact on me and my reality.
For example, ten years ago, I was significantly impacted when I would see behaviors at work that undermined and dehumanized people.
These stories would play out repeatedly in my head, impacting my behavior, productivity, and conversations with others.
Now, I rarely find myself working in an environment where I’m exposed to these types of situations.
And when I do encounter such situations, they hold less and less power to impact me and how I interact in the world.
When I interviewed Joseph Jaworski in 2014, I asked him, “How do we stay committed amid so much change?”
Joseph replied:
“What I have discovered over the years is that staying committed is so important because it’s like the Joseph Campbell picture of the Hero’s Journey which is an archetype for all of our lives, really. You have to go through that road of trial and stay committed. It’s almost as if the universe is saying, “I’m going to see how committed you are.” Keep your dream and your vision alive and in front of you, and maybe we can talk about it later but you tack into it. Beating the path as you walk it and then ultimately you’ll get there.”
That’s the power of commitment.
My experience has been that you never know what and where your commitment will lead to next.
For me, it’s been a steady progression that occurs about every two years.
It’s always triggered in the most unexpected ways, and there are repeatedly one or more people involved in co-creating it.

I’m looking forward to sharing more about Forward Thinking Pro in the early fall.
Until next time, to your forward thinking life & successs!
